LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team opened the 2019 season, its 10
th in program history, Saturday afternoon with a 14-8 win over the University of Saint Mary (Kan.) at the Charles J. Berkley Memorial Stadium.
Tech kicked off the new season quickly as
Brandon Schmehl scored 42 seconds into the game to put the Warriors on top. He followed that up with his second goal at the 10:15 mark in the quarter to restore the Warriors lead while
Noah Puckett made it a 3-1 game with 3:06 left in the period. Puckett added two more goals in the second as the visitors took a 6-3 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Orange and Black continued to tack on to their lead in the second half as they scored eight times, with
Louis Czech scoring three times to give him four goals on the day. 2018 All-American
Evan Schuster made five saves in the fourth quarter and finished with 13 in the game.
Puckett and Schmehl each recorded a hat trick while
Chandler Peterson dished out four assists.
Tech (1-0) returns to action on Sunday as they take on Benedictine College. Opening faceoff is set for 12 p.m. EST from the BC Soccer Complex and John Casey Soccer Center.
