ADRIAN, Mich. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Siena Heights University, 70-60, Wednesday evening at the SHU Fieldhouse. The loss snapped the Warriors 23 game win streak, the longest in program history and the longest streak in the NAIA this season.
Alexis Hill led the Warriors with a game-high 13 points and five rebounds while
Kendall Knapke and
DeAnn Kauffman each had 11 points. Knapke added nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
Rachel Bell chipped in 10 points and four assists.
Trailing 10-7 with 2:30 to play in the first quarter, Tech went on an 11-2 spurt to take a 16-12 lead with 1:14 to go. The Saints came right back with an 8-2 run to tie the game up at 18-18 with 9:36 left in the second. Five quick points from Knapke started a 9-0 run for the visitors to put them up 27-18 at the 6:27 mark. Siena Heights snapped a two-minute and 59-second scoring drought with a jumper from Peyton Banks, who finished with a game-high 31 points, with 6:07 to play in the half, but the Warriors held a 34-26 lead at the break.
The hosts continued to battle their way back into the game and used an 11-2 spurt and a three-minute and 53-second scoring drought from Tech to take a 44-41 lead with 2:56 to play in the third. The Warriors responded with a 4-0 run to end the quarter and take a 45-44 lead into the final period of regulation.
Siena Heights opened up the fourth with an 8-2 run to take a 52-47 lead with 7:19 to play and broke the game open with a 13-1 run to make it a 65-51 with 1:19 to go and gave the Warriors their first loss in conference play with the 70-60 win.
Tech (24-2, 16-1 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan for a battle with No. 25-ranked Aquinas College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center.
