BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Indiana Tech men's indoor track and field team returned to the top of the podium on Saturday evening inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the campus of South Dakota State University as they won their fifth NAIA National Title over the last six years with 56 points, edging out runner-up and 2018 champion Wayland Baptist University by two points for the title.
Kejavon Moore won his third straight title in the 60 meters with a time of 6.6, just one one-hundredth of a second off his national record time. Moore would finish fourth in the 200m with a time of 21.34, just 13 one-hundredths of a second behind teammate
Brandon Smiley for third.
Coby Bailey took fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.09 while
Qadir Muhammad ran a 1:18.95 in the 600m to finish in fourth to garner All-American honors.
Nathan Riley capped off his indoor career with All-American honors in the shot put as the senior took seventh with a mark of 16.57m/54-4.5.
Shomari Somerville finished seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 14.36m/47-1.5 while
Malik Johnson missed out on his second All-American honor of the weekend with a ninth place finish and a mark of 14.27m/46-10.
The 4x400m relay of
Barthelemy Peter, Moore,
Gairy Springer and Muhammad capped off the meet with a second-place finish by crossing the finish line in 3:10.09 and holding off Wayland Baptist, who finished first in the race but were still two points behind the Warriors in the team standings at the end of the meet.
Tech now turns its attention to the outdoor season, which begins on March 15 at the Jaguar Open, hosted by the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
