FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team knocked off No. 3-ranked University of the Cumberlands, 11-10, on Monday afternoon at Warrior Athletic Field.
The Patriot struck first with a goal just 39 seconds into the game.
McKenna Mesclier responded with the equalizer just 15 seconds later though while
Abbey Wilson put the Warriors up 2-1 at the 27:34 mark. UC, who came into the day with a NAIA-leading 233 goals in 11 games, responded with a 4-0 spurt to go up 5-2 with 14:10 left in the first half.
Tech added a pair of goals over the next three minutes to cut the deficit down to one, but the visitors responded with two goals of their own to go up 7-4.
Abby Barkdull appeared to give the Orange and Black some momentum heading into the half by finding the back of the cage with 18 seconds on the clock, but the Patriots won the ensuing draw and faced down the field for the quick strike and the 8-5 lead at the break.
Halli Reinhard scored 56 seconds into the second half to spark a 4-0 run for the Warriors over the next nine minutes as they took the lead with 21:46 left in the game after
Jennifer Banks found
Bailey Childs for the go-ahead score. The score would hold steady for the next eight minutes before the Patriots converted a free-position opportunity with 13:13 to play, but Childs put Tech up for good with 7:07 on the clock and
McKenna Mesclier added an insurance goal with 5:12 remaining to put the game out of reach.
Mesclier finished with a team-high three goals and five draws while Childs had two goals, three ground balls and six draw controls.
Sydney Davis made 14 saves in the win.
Tech (3-2) returns to action on Wednesday as they host Madonna University. Opening draw is set for 6 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
