GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team defeated No. 6-ranked Aquinas College, 12-11, on Wednesday evening at the AQ Athletic Field.
The Saints held the Warriors in check over the first two quarters of play as they outscored them 3-1 in the first and 3-2 in the second, respectively. Tech used back-to-back goals within 90 seconds to make it a 4-3 game with 9:01 to play in the first half, but Aquinas responded with two goals in the final seven minutes to take a 6-3 lead into the locker room.
The hosts opened up the third with two goals in the first five minutes, but the Orange and Black started a 7-0 run with 5:51 to play in the third thanks to a power play goal from
Chandler Peterson.
Louis Czech and
Noah Puckett also scored on man-advantage opportunities to begin the fourth while
Ian Tyburski scored twice in an eight-second span to make it a 10-8 lead in favor of the visitors.
The Warriors extended their lead up to 12-9 with 4:07 left on the clock, and while the Saints scored twice in the final 90 seconds of the game to make it a one-score contest,
Blaine Flanigan secured the victory as he caused a turnover and picked up the ground ball following a Saints win in the faceoff zone.
Tech (10-2, 4-1 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they host Lourdes University. Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
