Warriors Drop One, Have on Halted in Concordia Doubleheader

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team dropped a 9-7 decision to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Concordia University (Mich.) on Wednesday afternoon at the Concordia Softball Field. Game two of the doubleheader was halted in the bottom of the fifth due to darkness with Tech leading 7-3, while the game may or may not be finished at a later date due to conference standings and rules.

Concordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Warriors thanks to four hits, including a two-run homer. The hosts then tacked on runs in the next three innings thanks to seven hits, a hit batter and one Tech error.

A home run from Nicolle Sierra put Tech on the scoreboard in the fourth while the visitor offense exploded for five runs in the fifth. Brianna Glass led off the frame with a walk and scored on the next at-bat thanks to a home run from Ali LeNoue. A walk and two consecutive singles led to the bases loaded for the Warriors and Amanda Shonka delivered a two-out bases-clearing double to make it an 8-6 game.

Kari LaFreniere cut the deficit to one run in the next inning with an RBI single to score Glass with two outs, but the Cardinals got it back in the bottom of the frame to make it a 9-7 game. Tech got the tying run up to the plate with nobody out in the seventh, but the hosts got out of the jam to pick up the win.

Tech (14-20, 6-7 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they host Lawrence Tech in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. from Warrior Park.
