TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 21-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team swept Lourdes University in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Field in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action, winning 8-3 and 12-0.
Jacob Alvidrez put the Warriors ahead 1-0 with a solo shot to lead off the first, but the Gray Wolves came right back with a run in the bottom of the frame. Tech put up two more runs in the third off a triple from
Glen McClain and a single from
Branson Dossen. McClain tacked another a solo homer in the fifth to start a three-run inning to give starter
Charles Dunavan plenty of cushion, as the lefty went 6.2 innings on the mound and struck out eight batters in the win.
Seth Sorensen shut down Lourdes in game two as he pitched six innings and allowed just two hits while striking out seven batters to pick up the win. The Orange and Black broke the game open in the sixth as they took advantage of four walks, three hits and a pair of sacrifice flies to push six runs across the plate and take a 9-0 lead.
McClain launched another homer in the seventh to push the lead to 11-0 and give the Warriors the needed runs for the mercy rule while
Kris Massey shut the Gray Wolves down in the bottom of the seventh with a 1-2-3 inning to preserve the shutout.
Alvidrez went 3-4 at the dish with two RBI while McClain drove in five runs.
Tech (28-14, 12-4 WHAC) returns to action on Thursday as they host Siena Heights University in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. from Warrior Field.
