Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 21-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team defeated Siena Heights University, 8-1, in six innings on Thursday afternoon in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action at Warrior Field, while the second game of their doubleheader got postponed to Friday due to heavy rain. Friday's game will take place at Siena Heights University, with Tech serving as the home team.
The Warriors put up three runs in the second inning, with
Kyle Harvey driving in a run an error by the Saints center fielder while
Spenser McGhee drove in
Jake DeFries with a single up the middle. Harvey would come around to score one batter later as an out as recorded on a liner to third, and after the throw went to first to try and pick off McGhee, Harvey took off for home and avoided the tag with an escape move that would make Javier Baez tip his cap.
Harvey would score the fourth Tech run of the game thanks to a single from
Jake Ritson while Harvey knocked in DeFries with a double in the fifth to make it 5-1. The Orange and Black would score three more times in the inning to push their lead to 8-1, while the rain became too heavy in the top of the seventh and forced the umpires to call for the tarp to come out.
Harvey went 2-2 with two RBI and three runs while DeFries was 2-3 and scored twice.
Tanner Perkins went six strong innings to pick up the complete game victory, allowing just one run on five hits and striking out six batters.
Tech (29-14, 13-4 WHAC) is scheduled to return to action on Friday as they travel to Adrian, Michigan for the second game of their doubleheader with Siena Heights. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. from the SHU Baseball Diamond.
