FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team defeated Lawrence Tech, 10-6, on Saturday evening in the championship game of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament to claim the program's first-ever WHAC Tournament title and the league's automatic bid to the NAIA National Invitational.
The Blue Devils would take a 1-0 lead 81 seconds into the game, but the Warriors would go on a 3-0 run over a five-minute stretch, with
Chandler Peterson scoring twice in the run.
Andrew Ryan started another 3-0 spurt for the Orange and Black in the second, with
Joe Solin scoring with two seconds left in the first half to give the hosts a 5-2 lead at the half.
The two teams would trade off on the next five goals, with a man-up score from
Louis Czech giving the Warriors a 9-4 lead with 30 seconds left in the third. LTU would score twice in a minute-stretch in the final period, but the Tech defense would not allow a shot on goal in the final five minutes of action and force four turnovers to secure the victory.
Peterson finished with a hat trick while Solin and Czech each had two goals.
Jordan Reyes picked up nine ground balls and caused four turnovers while
Evan Schuster made 10 saves in the cage.
Tech (15-2) will now await their opponent for the 2019 NAIA National Invitational, set for May 8, 10-11 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The official field and bracket for the tournament will be released on Sunday, April 28.
