GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team will making its third straight trip to the NAIA National Invitational Semifinals as they defeated No. 7-ranked Keiser University, 9-7, on Wednesday afternoon at the Aquinas College Athletic Field.
The Warriors struck first in the first-ever matchup between the two schools as
Emmett Coleman found the back of the cage with 6:47 left to play in the first quarter. The Seahawks came right back with two goals to take a 2-1 lead 49 seconds into the second quarter.
Chandler Peterson knotted the game up with 12:06 to play in the first half while
Andrew Ryan and
Justin Hindman both converted man-up opportunities for Tech in the final eight minutes of the half as the Orange and Black took a 4-3 lead into the intermission.
Joe Solin gave the second-seed team in the national invitational a 5-3 lead with 13:41 to play in the third while goals from Peterson and Chandler Arvin made it a 7-4 game at the end of the period. Keiser scored twice in the first three minutes of the fourth to make it a one-goal game, but the Warriors countered with goals from
Ian Tyburski and Peterson in a two-minute stretch to make it a 9-6 game.
Evan Schuster held off a late rally from the Seahawks in the final seven minutes of the game with four saves to send the Warriors into the semifinals. He made eight saves in the game while
Andrew Neller picked up seven ground balls and won 10 face-offs while
Tom Piotrowski and
Jordan Reyes each caused two turnovers.
Noah Puckett dished out two assists.
Tech (16-2) will now take on sixth-seeded Aquinas College in the semifinals on Friday at 10 a.m. from the Aquinas College Athletic Field.
