GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Indiana Tech men's track and field team finished fourth at the 2019 NAIA National Championships with 40 points on Saturday inside Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium, scoring 35 points on the final day of competition.
Nathan Riley concluded his career with All-American honors in the shot put as he finished in fifth place with a personal best mark of 17.15m/56-3.25, the fifth-farthest throw in program history.
Malik Johnson got on the podium in the triple jump with a mark of 14.72m/48-3.5 to finish in seventh.
The 4x100 meter relay of
Logan Bloir, Qawtavis Johnson,
Coby Bailey and
Brandon Smiley took second in 40.31, the second straight season of earning a runner-up finish. Bailey followed up his 4x1 performance with a pair of individual All-American honors as he took eighth the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.10 and took fifth in the 100m with a time of 10.45, the latter run coming after suffering an injury in the hurdles. Smiley would won the best wind-legal time of his career in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 20.67 to take second.
The 4x400m relay of
Barthelemy Peter,
Qadir Muhammad, Smiley and Chale McLeod closed out the day with a runner-up finish in a time of 3:08.53, the second-fastest time in program history, to help the Warriors jump onto the podium and leap-frogging Oklahoma City for the final team trophy of the meet.
It is the 13th consecutive national championship across the indoor and outdoor campaigns that the Warriors have finished inside the top-four at the national championships.
