CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's outdoor track and field team continued its dominance of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Thursday and Friday as they scored 294 points at the WHAC Outdoor Championships to win its seventh straight title inside the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
Coby Bailey won the 100 meters and 110 meter hurdles in 10.60 and 14.96 while also taking second in the 200m (21.40) and helping the 4x100m relay to a win to garner Most Valuable Performer honors.
Malik Johnson won the long jump (6.94m/22-9.25) and triple jump (14.52m/47-7.75) while
Nathan Riley won the shot put with a mark of 17.03m/55-10.5.
Cayce Griffin set the program record in the 10,000m with a time of 30:46.70 while
Anthony Frank was third in 31:39.75.
Gairy Springer set the WHAC record in the 400m with a time of 48.06 while
Jalil Pollard and
Brandon Smiley set the conference records in the 400m hurdles (55.03) and 200m (20.98), respectively.
Dillan Cerny ran a personal best in the 800m (1:54.10) to take second and anchored the 4x800m relay to a third place finish as they crossed the line in 8:03.44. The 4x400m relay of Desire Akpoli,
Qadir Muhammad,
Theo White and Chale McLeod set the conference record with a time of 3:15.76.
The Warriors have 36 All-Conference winners while
Zavier Allen was named Newcomer of the Year and head coach
Doug Edgar was named the WHAC Coach of the Year for the seventh consecutive season.
Tech now turns its attention to the Hillsdale Last Chance Meet (May 9-10) and the NAIA National Outdoor Championships (May 23-25).
