Warriors Down Trojans Behind Harris’ Golden Goal

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team opened the 2019 season Saturday evening with a thrilling 3-2 double overtime victory over regional rival Taylor University inside Warrior Athletic Field.

The Trojans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, but the Warriors responded just two minutes later as Pep Casas took the pass from Luke Jones in the box and found the back of the net for the early equalizer. The rest of the half would be in favor of the Orange and Black, with the hosts outshot the visitors 11-2 (3-1 shots on goal), but were unable to break the tie and headed into halftime knotted up at 1-1.

Tech took advantage of a foul in the box in the 61st minute as Malte Dennert converted a penalty kick, but the Trojans tied the game back up at 2-2 20 minutes later as they scored on a PK as well. Taylor had a pair of opportunities to win the game in regulation, but Edwin Rosado made a pair of saves to keep the game knotted up at 2-2 to force extra time.

A foul in the second overtime session set up a free kick for Will Harris just outside the box and the freshman tucked it into the back right corner to give the Warriors the victory in the 113th minute.

Rosado finished the game with five saves.

Tech (1-0-0) returns to action on Tuesday, August 27 as they start a four-game road trip with a visit to Marian University. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from St. Vincent Field.
