FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team snapped a three-match losing streak Wednesday evening as they defeated the University of Saint Francis, 3-1, in their annual battle of bragging rights in the Summit City inside Bishop D'Arcy Stadium.
Noe Garcia had a pair of opportunities to crack the scoreboard in the first 10 minutes of the game, but both his shots would be stopped by Cougar keeper Braden Conn. The pressure caused by the early shots set the tone for the game as the Warriors controlled the action from that point on, with
Will Harris,
Luke Jones, Garcia and
Pep Casas all peppering the USF goal.
Maxwell Amokako put the Orange and Black on the scoreboard in the 27
th minute with the first goal of his collegiate career and nearly had his second one under a minute later. The Warriors went into the half leading 1-0 while holding a 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Tech continued to press the action in the second half with four more shots on frame in the first 20 minutes of the period before Jones broke through in the 79
th minute to make it a 2-0 game. Saint Francis made it interesting late in the contest as they cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 88
th minute, but Amoako restored the two-goal advantage just a minute later to give the Warriors the 3-1 victory, their third straight in the crosstown series.
Ivan Safranic made fives in the second half to pick up the win while Garcia and Amoako each had five shots on target.
