GOSHEN, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Goshen College in their nonconference final Saturday evening at the Goshen College Soccer Complex.
The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the contest as
Bailey Elliott converted a free kick from the left side of the box for her second goal of the season.
Elaina Monroe had a chance to make it a 2-0 game just 30 seconds later, but was denied by Goshen keeper Katie Baer.
The Maple Leafs found some momentum just before the half as they made the most of a corner kick and tied it up at 1-1 with 10 minutes left in the opening period. The second half would be a shot fest as both keepers faced at least six saves in the period, with stopped eight shots from the Warriors, including three in the last five minutes of regulation as the two teams headed into overtime.
The match appeared to be headed into a second overtime, but Goshen's Beatriz Menghin got the golden goal in the 98
th minute to hand the Warriors their third straight loss.
Elliott and Monroe each had three shots on goal while
Lydia Miller had two shots on frame.
Ally Zenda made a season-high 10 saves in the loss.
Tech (4-3-0) returns to action on Saturday, September 28 as they welcome in Aquinas College to the Summit City to being Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field and the match will serve as the team's Go For the Goal Game to raise funds in the fight against pediatric cancer.
