Warriors Take Down Panthers in Season Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 25-ranked Indiana Tech men's ice hockey opened its 2019-20 season with a 3-1 win over No. 7-ranked and former Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) foe Davenport University Friday evening at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.

"I liked the start we had and the pace we maintained," head coach Frank DiCristofaro said. "It's gonig to be important that we understand that's what it will take to win moving forward."
 
Tech controlled the action early in the first period as they recorded four shots on goal in the first five minutes of the game. Adam Vannelli scored the first goal of the season with 6:46 left in the period as he converted a power play opportunity from Joel Holmberg and Francesco Corona.
 
After a scoreless second period, the Panthers scored just 1:33 into the third period to tie the game up at 1-1, but Corona put the Orange and Black back ahead at the 15:58 mark while Cam Chabot netted his first collegiate goal at 12:30 to make it a 3-1 game.
 
Tech survived a late rally from the Panthers to open their season with the win and extend their winning streak to 30 consecutive games.
 
Holmberg finished the game with two assists while Alex Potter and Filip Schultza also recorded assists. Bryson Linenburg made 15 saves in the win.
 
Tech (1-0-0) returns to action on Friday, October 4, as they welcome Davenport back to the Summit City for their Homecoming game. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
