FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's indoor track and field team competed for the first time in 2020 Saturday at the Mastodon Invitational, hosted by Purdue University Fort Wayne and came home with the team title after scoring 168.5 points inside Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.
Zayquan Lincoln hit the NAIA provisional standard in the 60 meters with a time of 6.89 to take first while
Michael Warner won the 200m in a "B" standard time of 22.34.
Gairy Springer took second in the 200m with a time of 22.40.
Tech went 1-2-3 in the 400m as
Jordan Highsmith,
Daunte O'Banion and
Barthelemy Peter crossed the finish line in 49.31, 49.76 and 49.87, with Highsmith hitting the "A" standard and the other two hitting the "B" mark.
Coby Bailey won the 60m hurdles in 8.29 to hit the provisional mark while the team of
Justin Fleming, Warner,
Dillan Cerny and Kudzani Karawira won the distance medley relay in 10:36.22.
Tequan Claitt cleared 2.11m/6-11 in the high jump to win the event in his season debut and hitting the NAIA "A" standard while
Dylan Bikim and Victory Dailey cleared 2.04m/6-8.25 to take second and fourth, respectively, with automatic qualifying standards.
Malik Johnson took first in the triple jump, his third title of the season and second at a Purdue Fort Wayne meet, with a mark of 14.83m/48-8.
Daniel Buell won the weight throw with an "A" mark of 17.35m/56-11.25 and took second in the shot put with a mark of 14.71m/48-3.25.
Tech returns to action on January 24 as they travel to Liberty University for the two-day Liberty Kickoff. Meet times are set for 12:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. from the Liberty Indoor Track and Field Complex.
