Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Warriors Swept by Maple Leafs in First Conference Match

GOSHEN, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-21) to Goshen College Wednesday evening inside Ruth Gunden Gymnasium in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action.

Daynte Stewart and Mason Milan each had nine kills, with the former hitting .316 and recording six digs. Chandler Davis dished out 32 assists and seven digs while Jason Miller had 11 digs. Joey Hermes and Chase Christiansen had seven kills apiece.

Tech got out to a 9-6 lead following a 4-0 spurt powered by kills from Milan and Hermes, but the Maple Leafs came back on a 3-0 run to knot the set up at 9-9. The back and forth action continued over the set, with neither side able to get out by more than two points. Kills from Christiansen and Davis pushed the Warriors ahead 22-20, but Goshen dug deep and won five of the next six points to take the set 25-23 and go up 1-0.

The second set just as competitive and tight as the first, with both sides taking their turns holding the lead, but never able to get ahead by more than three points. With the score knotted up at 13, Goshen went on a 4-0 run and eventually pushed its lead to 20-17. Tech came back on a 5-2 spurt though to tie the set up at 22-22, but the hosts closed out the set on a 3-1 run to win 25-23 and take a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Warriors raced ahead to a 7-2 lead early on in the third set that was powered by a 4-0 run and extended its advantage to 9-4. Goshen showed no signs of having the match go more than the minimum though, battling back to take the lead following a 5-0 run that made it a 17-14 game. Tech came back to come within a point at 20-19, but that would be as close as they would get as the hosts took the third set 25-21 to complete the sweep.

Tech (3-4, 0-1 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they host No. 3-ranked Lourdes University in a conference matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
