LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Indiana Tech men's indoor track and field team returned to action this weekend with the Liberty Kickoff and collected seven top-three finishes inside the Liberty Indoor Track and Field Complex.
The 4x800 meter relay of
Phillip Selmer,
Kudzanai Karawira,
Jamir Ferguson and
Dillan Cerny started off the weekend with a bang Friday as they finished first in 7:49.34 to hit the NAIA automatic qualifying standard.
Tequan Claitt cleared 2.21m/7-3 to set the Tech program record along with the facility and meet record with an NAIA "A" standard and the top mark in the association.
Malik Johnson took second in the long jump (7.20m/23-7.5) and fourth in the triple jump (14.97m/49-1.5) while Karawira and Selmer finished second and fifth in the 1000m with times of 2:31.26 and 2:35.20, respectively.
Qawtavius Johnson took third in the 60m with a time of 6.81 while tying the meet record of 6.73 during the semifinals.
Anthony Franklin finished two spots behind in 6.84.
Tech returns to action next weekend with a pair of meets, the National Open, hosted by Penn State University January 31-February 1 and the Midwest Collegiate Classic, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University Feb. 1.
