Tech Slows Down Racers in Home Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio, 87-69, on Saturday afternoon in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action inside the Schaefer Center.

Max Huber scored a season-best 20 points on 8-10 shooting while adding seven rebounds, two steals and a block. Mitch Morken chipped in 13 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals while Dilyn Good had 11 points and four rebounds off the bench. Lucas Lehrman, Jeremy Davison and Cory McKinney all added nine points.
 
The Warriors started off the game on a 16-7 run that was fueled by three pointers by Huber, Davison and McKinney. The Racers kept the game within single digits for the first 10 minutes of the game, but Tech a triple from Huber sparked a 10-4 spurt that make it a 35-22 game with 4:42 to play in the first half. UNOH was kept in the game by Elijah Pughsley, who scored 15 of his 17 points in the opening 20 minutes of play, but the Orange and Black held the visitors to just 9-31 shooting in the half and used a 7-0 run to go into the locker room leading 46-28. Tech went 17-30 from the floor in the opening half while Huber and Morken each had 11 points.
 
Tech continued to extend its lead in the second half, building the advantage up to as many as 29 points. A 15-6 run from the Warriors during the middle stretch of the half pushed the lead 67-43 while a three pointer from Tyler Canfield gave the hosts their largest lead of the contest with 6:54 left on the clock. UNOH chipped the lead down to 16 points, but not until the final minute of the game as the Warriors took advantage of their early lead to cruise to the win in their return to conference action.
 
Tech (9-8, 5-2 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, January 8 as they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan for a battle with Aquinas College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center.
