Tech Notches First Win in Battle of the Warriors

PONTIAC, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team got into the win column for the first time in the 2020-21 season Saturday afternoon as they defeated Rochester University, 3-1, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play at Ultimate Soccer Arena.

Tech struck first as Molly Ames found the back of the net in the 14th minute to make it a 1-0 game. That score would last through halftime but changed just 43 seconds into the second half as Rochester's Taryn Ryan knotted the match at 1-1.

Ames put the Warriors back on top in the 67th minute while Athena Edwards put the exclamation point on the victory with her first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute to make it a 3-1 final.

Megan Clifton, Kayla Saffran and Dani Blagojevic all picked up assists while Michaela Bitle came on in relief in the second half to notch her first collegiate victory in goal. Bitle finished the game with two saves. Blagojevic had a match-high four shots on goal while Ames had three on frame. Tech outshot Rochester 29-8 and held a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Tech (1-4-0, 1-2-0 WHAC) returns to action Monday as they host Olivet Nazarene University in a nonconference matchup. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
