Warriors Run Away From Wolverines to Clinch Third Straight WHAC Crown

DEARBORN, Mich. – The No. 11-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated the University of Michigan-Dearborn, 68-51, Wednesday evening to extend its winning streak to 14 games and clinch its third straight Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) championship with the win inside the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse. With the regular season crown, the Warriors clinched an automatic bid to the 2020 NAIA Division II National Championship, making it the fourth straight season that they will head out to Sioux City, Iowa for the tournament.

Erika Foy scored a career-best 27 points in 27 minutes off the bench, going 10-12 from the field and 7-7 from the free throw line while picking up six rebounds. Emma Wolfe added 14 points, four rebounds and four assists while DeAnn Kauffman had nine points and four rebounds. Alexis Hill had eight points, eight rebounds and three assists while Rachel Bell had six points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Tech raced out to a 12-2 lead in the first six minutes of the game and never looked back. The Wolverines managed to cut the lead down to 12-8 with 2:17 left in the first quarter, but the Warriors responded with an 8-0 run to end the quarter and give the visitors a 20-8 lead at the break.

Foy took over in the second quarter as the redshirt freshman scored 14 of the teams 21 points in nine minutes of action, going 6-7 from the field. Foy scored nine straight points for the Orange and Black over a 1:52 stretch towards the end of the half to propel Tech's lead to 39-20 that eventually blossomed to a 41-23 lead at the break.

Kauffman started off the third quarter with an and-one play, but that would be the only points the team would score until the 5:14 mark of the period as Foy broke the drought with back-to-back jumpers. UM-Dearborn kept trying to grab the momentum and get back in the game, but every time they cut the deficit to under 20 the Warriors would send the lead back up, with Wolfe knocking down a triple with nine seconds to play in the quarter to give Tech a 55-35 lead after 30 minutes of play.

The hosts started off the fourth quarter on a 5-0 lead and cut the lead down to 15 points multiple times over the six minutes of the period, but Tech would not let them get any closer than that as they clamped down in the final four minutes of the game to notch their 14th straight win comfortably.

Tech (25-4, 18-1 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they close out the regular season against Aquinas College at home on Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
