Warriors Sweep Blue Devils for First WHAC Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team notched its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) win in program history as they swept Lawrence Technological University, 25-23, 27-25, 26-24, Wednesday evening inside the Schaefer Center.

Cameron Ternent tallied a match-high 14 kills to go along with eight digs, two blocks and two service aces. Daynte Stewart had nine kills while Mason Milan had nine kills, 10 digs, two aces and two blocks. Chandler Davis dished out 37 assists while Joey Hermes had 13 digs.

Playing on home soil for the first time in 18 days, the Warriors tussled with the Blue Devils right out the gate in the first-ever matchup between the two Techs. With the score knotted up at 12-12 in the first, the Warriors went on a 5-3 run to go ahead 17-15. The Orange and Black pushed their lead up to 20-17, but the Blue Devils came right back to knot the set up at 21-all. After splitting the next four points, the hosts would come out on top thanks to a kill from Milan and an LTU error to win the set 25-23.

The Warriors would control the action in the second set in the beginning as they raced out to an 18-11 lead following a 6-3 spurt, but LTU slowly chipped away at the deficit. A 7-0 run from the visitors put them ahead 23-21 and poised to tie the set up at 1-1, but the Warriors took the next two points on a kill from Dante Siracusa and a block from Siracusa and Ternent to tie things up at 23-all. After splitting the next four points, the Orange and Black powered their way to the 2-0 lead thanks to kills from Stewart and Milan to give them a 27-25 set win.

In a third set that saw 12 ties and five lead changes, neither side had a lead that felt safe in the final set of the evening. Lawrence Tech held the advantage early as they sported a 6-2 lead, but the Warriors powered back to knot things up at 10-10. The visitors grew their lead back up to 17-13, but a 6-1 run from the hosts tied the set up at 21. The Orange and Black took advantage of three straight LTU errors to get it to match point, but the Blue Devils came right back by winning the next two points to tie it up at 24-24. Kills from Ternent and Stewart though, ensured the home crowd got to go home happy as the Warriors finished off the Blue Devils with a 26-24 win to complete the sweep.

Tech (6-11, 1-3 WHAC) returns to action on Friday as they host NCAA Division I foe Tusculum University. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
