Warriors Sweep Pioneers to Start Weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team defeated NCAA Division I/II foe Tusculum University, 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-19) Friday evening inside the Schaefer Center.
 
Mason Milan had a match-high nine kills while Cameron Ternent also had nine kills, nine digs and two service aces. Chandler Davis dished out 25 assists while Joey Hermes had eight digs.
 
The Warriors got off to a fast start against the Pioneers, who are also in their first season as a varsity program, with a 10-5 lead. Tusculum cut the deficit down to 15-12, but a 5-0 run from Tech put the momentum back on their side as they gradually pushed the lead to 23-14. The visitors fought off a pair of match points and a 6-1 run made it a 24-20 game, but the hosts got a kill from Daynte Stewart to take the set.
 
Tech controlled the action from the first set of the second set, racing out to a 12-6 lead. The Orange and Black dominated the rest of the set, leading by as many as nine points at 20-11 before taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-15 win.
 
The hosts showed no signs of slowing down in the third set as they started off the game with a 9-5 run. Tusculum cut the deficit down to 11-9, but a 7-2 run from the Warriors pushed the lead to 18-11. A late push from the Pioneers brought them to with 24-17 as they fought off three match points, but Stewart ended the night with his eighth kill to complete the sweep.
 
Tech (7-11) returns to action Saturday as they host No. 10-ranked Aquinas College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
