Warriors Power Past Maple Leafs in Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team defeated Goshen College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23) Tuesday evening in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play inside the Schaefer Center.

Daynte Stewart, Cameron Ternent and Dante Siracusa all had nine kills, with Siracusa hitting a match-high .615 to go along with five blocks and three digs. Ternent added eight digs, Chandler Davis notched 30 assists and Mason Milan recorded eight digs and six kills.

The two sides battled back and forth over the first set, with 11 ties and three lead changes over the 45 serves. A 3-0 run from Tech pushed them ahead late to a 23-19 lead thanks to a pair of kills from Siracusa and a block from Christiansen. A kill from Alexander Rabadzhiev, the reigning WHAC Attacker of the Week, brought the Maple Leafs to within three points, but the Warriors took the next two points thanks to a kill from Christiansen and a service ace from Milan to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Tech got out to a 3-1 lead to start the second and never trailed again in the set after dropping the opening point. A 6-1 run pushed their lead to 14-8, but Goshen came roaring back with an 11-5 spurt to make it a 21-19 game. The Warriors would not flinch though, winning four of the next five points to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Orange and Black started the third set on a good foot with a 6-2 run, but could not pull away from the visitors who battled back to cut the deficit down to one at 7-6. The slim margin for the Warriors continued to hold true until a 3-0 run from Goshen knotted the set up at 17. A 4-1 run from the Maple Leafs put them up 21-19 as they appeared poised to send the match into a fourth set, but Tech came back with a 4-0 run to take a 23-21 lead. Goshen took the next two points to knot the game up at 23, but a kill from Siracusa and an ace from Ternent shut the door on any change of a comeback as the Warriors completed the sweep.

Tech (8-12, 2-4 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, March 4 as they host NCAA Division III foe Olivet College. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
