LIVONIA, Mich. – The No. 12-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team notched its 10
th straight victory Wednesday evening against Madonna University in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action, winning 84-39 inside the Activities Center.
Emma Tuominen had a career-high 18 points off the bench to lead all scorers, going 7-7 from the floor and 4-4 from behind the three-point line while adding six rebounds and two assists.
Emma Wolfe had 16 points while
DeAnn Kauffman chipped in 14 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Alexis Hill and
Erika Foy each scored 10 points with the former grabbing nine rebounds and two steals while the latter had 11 rebounds and three steals.
Rachel Bell had eight rebounds and seven assists to go along with two points.
The Crusaders jumped ahead of the Warriors with a 6-4 spurt through the first two and a half minutes of the game, but Tech responded with an 11-0 run to go ahead 15-6 at the 2:50 mark. The Warriors defense did not allow Madonna to score the seventh and eighth points of the night until the 2:29 mark of the period, but it was not enough to slow down the roll of the Orange and Black who led 20-8 at the quarter break.
An 18-0 run, couple with a 7:15 scoring drought from the Crusaders, propelled the visitors lead up to 40-12 late in the second quarter and put any thoughts of a comeback to rest as the Warriors led 40-14 at the break. Six different Tech players scored during the spurt while the stingy defense of the Orange and Black forced three turnovers during the run.
Madonna finally broke into double-digit scoring for a quarter as they put up 17 points during the third, but the Warriors matched them step-for-step by scoring 20 during the period and never lifted their foot off the gas as Tech found themselves leading 61-31 heading into the final quarter. The hosts drained five three pointers during the quarter from four different players to lead the offensive outburst.
The Warriors offensive machine kept on putting up points in the fourth quarter with 23 in all while their defensive tenacity kept up by limiting the Crusaders to just eight points, their third quarter of holding their foes to less than 10 points in a period, to close out the 84-39 victory.
Tech (21-14, 14-1 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they travel to the University of Northwestern Ohio for a conference battle. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from Racer Gymnasium.
