Warriors Speed Back from First-Quarter Deficit to Lap Racers

LIMA, Ohio – The No. 12-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio, 74-51, Saturday afternoon in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play inside the Garage. The victory extended the Warriors winning streak to 11 games and moves Tech into sole possession of first place in the WHAC along with a loss from Siena Heights University.

DeAnn Kauffman had a game-high 16 points, five rebounds, five steals, two blocks and two assists while Emma Wolfe had 15 points and two rebounds. Kyra Whitaker and Erika Foy had 13 points each with the former adding four rebounds and three assists and the latter grabbing nine rebounds. Emma Tuominen had eight points and five rebounds while Rachel Bell had five points, seven assists and seven rebounds.

The Warriors found themselves in a tussle early in as the Racers positioned themselves in the game early on and would not led the visitors get too far ahead. Trailing 11-9 with four minutes left in the opening quarter, UNOH sprinted ahead with an 11-0 run and held Tech scoreless over that time span to take a 17-11 lead into the first quarter break.

Whitaker sparked the Warrior offense with back-to-back triples in the second quarter to pull them within 20-16. Six straight points from Foy and Bell propelled Tech to a 22-22 tie with 4:37 left in the opening half while the Orange and Black ended the quarter on a 7-0 run and held UNOH scoreless for the last 4:25 of the period to take a 29-25 lead into the locker room.

Tech's offensive engine came fully alive in the third quarter as they outscored the Racers 24-11 in the period. A 13-3 run from the Warriors that saw Kauffman knock down two three-pointers and Tuominen hit one as well gave the visitors a 53-36 lead with 10 minutes to play in the game.

The Warriors kept up the pressure on both ends of the court in the fourth quarter as they never let UNOH get the deficit under 18 points while scoring 21 points during the period to win comfortably. A 14-4 run that was coupled with a four minute scoring drought from the hosts put the game well out of reach as Tech ran its winning streak to 11 games with the 74-51 win.

Tech (22-4, 15-1 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, February 12 as they head to Lawrence Technological University for a conference battle. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from Don Ridler Field House.
