FRASER, Mich. – The No. 8-ranked Indiana Tech men's hockey team defeated Rochester University, 11-2, Thursday evening in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play at Fraser Hockeyland.
Nick Papandrea netted his first career hat trick in the rout while
Zach Bennett had four assists and two goals to lead the team in points.
Mike Tish also recorded four assists while
Francesco Corona had two assists to reach the 100 point plateau for his career.
Ryan O'Toole made 16 saves in the win.
Tech started the first period on fire as they outscored Rochester 6-0 in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Joel Holmberg got the action started 72 seconds into the game while Bennett, Papandrea and
Cam Chabot all scored within a 3:30 stretch before the 12-minute mark to make it a 4-0 game, with Papandrea and Chabot's goals coming on the power play.
Bennett and
Cameron Wirick both tallied goals in the final five minutes of the period to cap the six-goal outburst while Papandrea scored twice in the second period to get the hat trick.
Tech (21-7-0, 13-4-0 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday with the finale of their season series with Rochester. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
