BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Indiana Tech men's and women's indoor track and field teams kicked off action today at the 2020 NAIA Indoor National Championships with six events inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the campus of South Dakota State University.
Kylin Nichols was the first competitor of the day in the women's pentathlon and ended the event in 13
th with a score of 3,029. She started off the day with a second-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles, crossing the finish in a personal-best time of 8.90. She would finish in a tie for third in the high jump after clearing 1.61m/5-3.5 and then finished 16
th in the shot put with a mark of 6.93m/22-8.75. After taking fourth in the long jump with a 5.16m/16-11.25 mark, she ended the day 15
th in the 800m with a time of 2:54.63.
The women's 4x800m relay of
Angie Sanchez,
Alexis Lombardo,
Kaleigh Renninger and
Lily Rothert ran a season-best time of 9:39.75, but did not advance to the finals. The women's 4x400m relay of
Kayla Moody,
Destinee McGrady,
Antonishka Deveaux and
Doshawn Franks won their heat in 3:49.37 and finished as the number two seed for Saturday's finals.
The men's 4x400m relay of
Daunte O'Banion, Chale McLeod,
Michael Warner and
Barthelemy Peter also won their heat and got the second seed for Saturday's finals with a time of 3:13.90. The men's distance medley relay of
Phillip Selmer, Jamir Fergurson,
Dillan Cerny and
Justin Fleming ran a season-best time of 10:14.63 and was the first spot out of finals qualifying by less than a minute and a half with a ninth place finish.
Tech continues onto their quest for a national title on Friday with the second day of the NAIA National championships. The meet gets underway at 11 a.m. ET with men's heptathlon while the first Tech event will be the men's weight throw at 1 p.m. ET.
