Warriors Can’t Find Lighting in a Bottle in Loss to Thunder

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team staged a furious rally but came up just short in their comeback attempt against Trine University Tuesday afternoon as they fell to their former NAIA and conference rivals 4-3 at Weaver Soccer Field.

Tech took an early lead as Lily Rothert found Bailey Elliott in the 20th minute of the match to put the visitors on top. The Thunder came storming back though, scoring three times over the next 15 minutes to take a commanding lead. Trine's Mia Schlueter scored just two minutes apart to put the hosts in the driver's seat six minutes after the Warriors goal.

The Thunder tacked on another goal in the 64th minute to make it a 4-1 game, but the Orange and Black would not go quietly into the autumn night as Molly Ames cut the deficit in half with just six minutes left in the match. Ames found Kayla Saffran in the 87th minute to make it a 4-3 contest while the former had a chance to tie the game up with just under 90 seconds to play but her header was denied by Jessalyn Friderick and the Thunder held on to the win.

Christian Wynn made five saves in the loss while making her first appearance on the pitch since 2018. Ames finished with a match-high four shots on goal while Saffran and Elliott each had two shots on frame.

Tech (0-2-0) returns to action Saturday as they open up Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action on the road against Siena Heights University. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. from O'Laughlin Stadium.
