GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Indiana Tech men's basketball team fell short of the 1-0 conference start they were looking for, dropping one at Cornerstone by a score of 88-76.
Cornerstone (1-0) shot the ball at a very effective clip, 34-42 (54.8%) and the Warriors could not match, posting a 40.8% of their own.Â
Grant Smith led all Warrior scorers with 24, knocking down all five Warrior three-pointers to go along with 12 rebounds.
Rog Stein had a double-double of his own, adding 19 point and 12 rebounds to the Tech total.Â
The Warriors shot just 56.5% from the charity stripe, as opposed to Cornerstone's 76.2%.Â
The Golden Eagles would get out to a nine-point lead with 7:03 to go in the 2nd half, and Tech just couldn't recover. They came close when they cut the lead down to two at the 5:07 mark after a free throws from
Cory McKinney and
Rog Stein, but Cornerstone would respond with a flurry of points and would eventually salt the game late to hang on for a 88-76 victory.
Tech (2-3) will return to action this Saturday as they travel to Ann Arbor to take on Concordia (3-3) at Cardinal Fieldhouse. Tip-off will be at 3 p.m.
