Warriors Pull Away from Wolverines

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 14-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated the University of Michigan-Dearborn, 81-56, Wednesday evening inside the Schaefer Center.

Taya Andrews led all players with 18 points, five rebounds and two assists while Emma Tuominen had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. Erika Foy notched a double-double with 15 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks while Jules Cutrara also got a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while tallying six assists and two steals.

The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead while holding the Wolverines scoreless until the 6:50 mark. UM-Dearborn, who did not play last year due to COVID-19, did not back down to the preseason conference favorites and trailed just 18-17 at the end of the first quarter.

It took a few minutes for both offenses to find their rhythm in the second as the first points were not scored until the 7:29 mark. Tech appeared to grab the momentum with an 11-2 run to put them up 36-29 with 1:59 to play in the half, but the Wolverines held them scoreless for the rest of the period and trailed by five at the break.

The Wolverines started the third on a three-point barrage with a 12-2 run on four triples to go ahead 43-38 with 7:08 on the clock. The Warriors battled back with a 10-2 spurt to put the hosts up 48-45 at the 3:31 mark and entered the final quarter leading 55-48.

Tech started off the fourth on a 15-1 run that featured a fast-break triple from Eileen Salisbury and back-to-back triples from Andrews to cap the spurt and make it a 70-49 advantage for the Warriors. A jumper from Abby Fullerton, who led UM-Dearborn with 13 points, snapped a 4:28 scoring drought for the visitors at 5:06 mark, but the Warriors responded with a 7-0 run to push the lead to 26 points and the lead never dipped under 20 points again as the Orange and Black rebounded from their first loss of the season.

Tech (10-1, 4-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they host the University of Northwestern Ohio. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
