Women's Volleyball Stymied by Madonna

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Women's volleyball struggles to create offense while Madonna soared taking down the Warriors 3-0 for their first WHAC loss of the season.

Madonna came out quick scoring the first point of the match before going on two 3-0 runs to gain an early 8-3 lead. Tech responded with a 7-4 run to get within two (12-10). The two teams began trading points with the Warriors tying the set at 16-16 and again at 19-19 before taking their first lead of the set 20-19. The Crusaders quickly responded with five straight points to lead 24-20. Tech strung together three points before Madonna ended the set 25-23.

The Crusaders scored the first two points of the second set only to send the teams into back-and-forth points once again. The set was tied four times before Madonna took a 9-7 lead. The Warriors got within one (12-11) when the Crusaders took the momentum and went on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to five (16-11). Tech answered with a 5-1 stretch to get back within one (17-16). The two teams traded points before Madonna scored the final three and won the second set 25-21.

Taylor Paul notched the first point of the third set only to send the Crusaders into a 5-0 run. Madonna extended their lead to 13-5 and later 18-8. Tech was down 21-10 when they rallied for six straight points to get within five (21-16). Madonna ended the run with three-straight to make it match point 24-16. Tech scored three points but ran out of steam and fell to the Crusaders 25-19 in the last set and 3-0 in the match.

Paul led the Warriors once again in kills with eight while also recording two digs and one block assist. Havilyn Cummings earned six kills, one assist, two block assists and one dig in the match. Genna Karbowski led Tech with 15 assists and nine digs while Andrea Schrive recorded nine assists and four digs. Jacey Blust tallied 15 digs and two assists while Madysn Cardinal earned 10 digs.

The Warriors are back in action on Tuesday, February 16th when they host another WHAC opponent Cornerstone at 5 p.m.
