ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Women's basketball falls short against Rochester 69-64.
After Rochester scored the first basket of the game
Taya Andrews quickly answered with a three to give the Warriors their first lead of the game (3-2). The back-and-forth scoring then began with
Alexis Hill hitting a pair of free throws about halfway through the first to tie the game 8-8. Only 11 more points were scored in the first quarter between the two teams and Rochester led 16-13 after the first.
Rochester opened the second quarter with a 4-0 run to lead 20-13 before the Warriors upped their game. Tech scored 11 straight points to take a 23-20 lead with 7:09 left in the half. Rochester stopped Tech's run with a jumper before
Erika Foy made three free throws to put Tech ahead 28-24. Rochester had another 4-0 run to tie the game 30-30 with 1:06 left in the half. With 48 seconds left
Eileen Salisbury knocked down a three-pointer to give Tech a 33-30 lead heading into halftime.
Foy scored the first basket of the third quarter which only motivated Rochester more. Rochester later strung together a 13-0 run to take a nine-point lead (46-37), the largest lead of the game, with just 3:09 left in the third quarter. Tech scored the final four points of the quarter to get within five (46-41) before starting the last quarter.
Hill got the action started in the fourth with a layup to get Tech within three (46-43) before Rochester scored seven unanswered points to take a ten-point lead (53-43). Tech answered with a 5-0 run to get back within five (53-48) only for Rochester to score five points right after to lead 58-48 with 4:07 left in the game. Another five points for the Warriors put the score at 58-53 before the teams started trading baskets. Tech was down 61-57 with 40 seconds left and started to foul to try and regain possession. Rochester made all of their free throws making it difficult for Tech to catch up and they fell 69-64.
Hill led Tech with 21 points and earned the double-double with 14 rebounds while adding six assists.
Andrews recorded 16 points, six rebounds and one steal while
Foy tallied 11 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Salisbury earned 10 points and seven rebounds on the night with two steals and one block.
As a team, the Warriors shot 38.1 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 78.6 percent from the free throw line. Tech recorded 30 points in the paint, 10 second chance points and seven points off turnovers.
The Warriors are back on the court tomorrow Sunday, February 21
st when they host Lourdes at 1 p.m. for their senior day.
