Baseball Drops Two on Opening Day

ATHENS, Tenn. – Baseball opened the 2021 season with a doubleheader against No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan where the Warriors fell in both games, 7-1 and 17-0.

In the first game, Tech started with a 1-0 lead right in the first inning. Tech held the lead until the third when Tennessee Wesleyan found their bats and tallied four runs in just the third inning. In the fourth, the Bulldogs recorded two more runs and scored one more in the sixth for the 7-1 win.

Trevor Patterson scored the lone run for the Warriors while Patterson, Spenser McGhee and Christian De Los Santos all recorded hits in the loss.

Charles Dunavan recorded the loss for the Warriors on the mound with four strikeouts, two wild pitches, five runs and four hits. Martin Eckard pitched for 3.2 innings with three strikeouts while Kris Massey finished the game with one inning and two strikeouts.

In the second game, Tennessee Wesleyan came out with aggressive bats and scored seven runs in just the first inning. The Bulldogs then recorded three in the fourth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh to win 17-0.

Tech had one hit in the loss by Patterson while Yeshua Saint took the loss pitching the first inning. Ryan Troxel pitched three innings for 15 at bats while Jacob Howe pitched two innings with two strikeouts to ten batters. Mark Morgan and Kyler Seeman also got appearances on the mound.

The Warriors are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, February 21st when they have another doubleheader against No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan.
