Men's Volleyball Battles Back to Defeat Goshen 3-1

GOSHEN, Ind. – Men's volleyball bounces back from slow start to defeat Goshen 3-1 on the road.

Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the two teams began trading points. The set was tied at 4-4 before the Warriors went on a 5-1 run to lead 9-5. Tech maintained a two-point lead until Goshen rallied for three to get within one (12-11). Goshen tied the set at 16 apiece which motivated the Warriors and they worked for a 19-15 lead. The Maple Leafs fought their way back and tied the set 20-20 and eventually took a 23-22 lead, their first of the set. The teams began trading points with the set being tied eight more times. Goshen scored the final three points of the set to take the first one 33-31.

The Warriors took an early 6-2 lead in the second set and led 10-7 before the Maple Leafs gained their footing and rallied for three points to tie the set 10-10. The Warriors answered with five points to their one to take a 15-11 lead. Goshen did not give up and remained within two points until a three-point rally tied the set at 22-22. Tech took control and scored the final three points to win the second set 25-22.

Goshen scored the first two points of the third set and eventually led 5-2 before the Warriors could get anything going. Tech got within on (5-4) and after one Goshen point rallied for a four-point run to take an 8-6 lead, their first of this set. The Warriors had another 4-0 run to extend their lead to five (12-7) only for Goshen to answer with three points themselves and get within two (12-10). A 6-2 rally from Tech advanced their lead 18-12 before the back-and-forth scoring began. Tech maintained their lead the whole time and won the set 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The back-and-forth scoring started from the beginning in the fourth set with the Warriors never losing their lead. Tech had three straight points to take a 10-6 lead and another three-point streak last to extend their lead 17-9. Goshen attempted to battle back but could not stop the Tech offense and the Warriors took the fourth set 25-15 and the match 3-1.

Daynte Stewart had a career-high 28 kills and secured the double-double with 14 digs and added two assists, three service aces, and two block assists. Stewart hit a .489 percentage in the match. Mason Milan also earned a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs with a .375 hitting percentage. Chandler Davis led the Warriors with a career-high 55 assists with four digs, two kills and two block assists.

The Warriors are back in action on Friday, February 26th when they host Aquinas at 6 p.m.
