Men's Ice Hockey Defeats Lawrence Tech in Shootouts

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team defeated Lawrence Tech for their first WHAC victory this season 3-2 in shootouts.

The Warriors jumped out to an early goal in the first period by Bear Ross from Bobby Frieson to score the only goal of the first period and give Tech the 1-0 lead. In the first period the Warriors defended against three Lawrence Tech power plays, not allowing them to score any goals in the first.

The Blue Devils answered in the second with a goal right at the start of the period to tie the game 1-1. There were only two power plays in the second period, which neither team could capitalize on. Cam Chabot found the back of the net from Adam Vannelli on a power play in the third to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead before Lawrence Tech answered on their own power play to tie the game 2-2. Neither team could find the back of the net in the third and sent the game into overtime.

In the first overtime, each team dialed up their defense not allowing any goals for either side, sending the game into shootouts. Vannelli scored the first shootout goal only for Blake Heier to score and tie shootouts at 1-1. Coley Barney was the only other player to score in shootouts and therefore tabbed the game-winning goal to win the game 3-2 for the Warriors.

Tech is back in action when they travel to Rochester on Friday, February 12th for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
