FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Women's volleyball opened up Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play earlier tonight when they swept Lourdes University 3-0.
Lourdes had an early 6-3 lead after a four-point scoring streak. After going down 8-5, Tech rallied for eight straight points to take a 13-8 lead. The Gray Wolves answered with three points to get within two before the Warriors scored two to lead 15-11. There were back-and-forth points until Tech had a three-point run to lead 21-15. Lourdes was unable to gain momentum and the Warriors took the first set 25-19.
The Gray Wolves opened the second set with a 3-0 run and led 8-4 before the Warriors could gain momentum. Tech went on a five-point streak to take the lead 8-9 for their first lead of the second set. Lourdes answered with four points to take back the lead (12-9). The two teams began trading points with the set being tied at 17-17 and then Lourdes taking a 19-17 lead. The Warriors rallied for five points to take a late 22-19 lead that they hung on to and won the set 25-23 to lead 2-0 in the match.
Tech scored the first point of the third set before Lourdes rallied for three and then two points to take a 5-2 lead. The Warriors stole momentum and went on a 6-0 run to lead 8-5. Tech advanced their lead to 13-7 before the Gray Wolves were able to score four-straight to get within two (13-11). The Warriors answered with four of their own to lead by six (17-11). After Lourdes scored two, Tech went on a 6-0 run to lead 23-13. Lourdes did not give up and scored three more before Tech took the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
Taylor Paul led the Warriors with 12 kills with one block assist and one dig while both
Genna Karbowski and
Andrea Schriver tallied 17 assists apiece.
Karbowski earned the double-double with ten digs while also recording two service aces.
Jacey Blust led Tech with 24 digs with
Katrina Reynolds recording 19.
The Warriors are back in action on February 12
th at 7 p.m. home against Madonna.
