Warriors Fall in Four Sets to Cougars in Top-15 Showdown

CHICAGO – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech men's volleyball team fell to No. 11-ranked Saint Xavier University 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25) Tuesday evening inside the Shannon Center.

How It Happened
  • The Cougars controlled the action early in the first set, going up 11-6 and then using a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 17-8. The Warriors found some fight as they cut the deficit down to 21-15 and then 23-17, but it was not enough to close the cap as Saint Xavier took the opening set.
  • The second set went back and forth with 16 ties and six lead changes, but Tech was able to pull it out at the end. After being all knotted up at 21, the Warriors won four of the next five points to even the match at one set apiece.
  • The battle continued into the third set with the Cougars pulling away with an 8-2 run to make it a 19-15 game. Tech cut the deficit down to 23-20, but the hosts took the final two points to go up 2-1 in the match.
  • The Warriors gave it all they had in the fourth set in an attempt to extend the match and held a 17-16 lead late. Saint Xavier went on a 5-1 run though to go up 21-18 and never led the lead go again. Tech fought back to cut the deficit to 23-22, but the hosts won the next two points coming out of a timeout to complete the 3-1 win.
