Bracket, sponsored by St. Elizabeth Healthcare.
The win moves the Warriors (27-2) into the championship game of the bracket where they will take on No 20-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University for the right to advance to the 2021 NAIA National Championship final site in Sioux City, Iowa. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. from the Connor Convocation Center.
How It Happened
- The Warriors and Red Storm, who had attempted to play during the regular season but been thwarted by COVID-19 issues with Rio Grande, had a back-and-forth first quarter with four ties and two lead changes that ended in a 17-17 at the end of the period.
- Tech turned up the pressure on the defensive end of the court in the second as they held Rio Grande to just two points on 1-14 shooting, including 0-6 from downtown, while scoring 16 points to take a commanding lead. The lone basket of the quarter for the Red Storm came at the 7:52 mark of the period while the Warriors went on a 14-0 run after that.
- URG took advantage of 12 free throw attempts in the third quarter and six made field goals to score 20 points in the period to get back into the game, but the Warriors didn't allow the Red Storm to get within nine points and continued to hold a sizeable advantage.
- Tech pushed the lead back up to 18 points in the fourth and were never truly threatened by the Red Storm, who failed to hit any shots from behind the arc and went just 4-13 from the floor in the final 10 minutes of play as the Orange and Black advanced to the championship game with their sixth straight win.
