Warriors Breeze Past Golden Eagles in Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech men's volleyball team defeated Cornerstone University 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-17) Saturday afternoon inside the Schaefer Center.
 
How It Happened
  • After splitting the first six points of the match, Tech used a 4-0 run to go up 7-3 before another 4-0 spurt put them ahead 11-5 and they never looked back. The lead ballooned to 18-8 and eventually grew into a 25-13 win to give the hosts the 1-0 advantage.
  • Cornerstone took the first two points of the second set, but the Warriors responded with a 7-0 run to grab the lead. Tech grew its advantage to 14-7 and continued its dominance with a 9-0 run to make it a 23-10 advantage to move up 2-0.
  • The Orange and Black continued to dominate in the third with a 10-4 run to kick off the set. While Cornerstone cut the deficit to 11-8, a 4-0 spurt from the hosts put them up by seven. Another 4-0 run put the Golden Eagles down 21-12 for a deficit in which they could not overcome as they suffered their 19th loss of the season and 15th sweep of the year.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Tech hit a blistering .333 in the opening set and .312 in the third en route to a .308 hitting percentage for the day. The Warriors had 37 digs to the Golden Eagles 15.
  • Raekwon Rogers and Daynte Stewart had a match-high 10 kills while the former had four blocks. Brandon Jones dished out 18 assists while Joey Hermes had eight digs.
 
Tech (14-3, 9-1 WHAC) returns to action on Tuesday, March 23 as they travel to #10-ranked Lourdes University in a battle for the top spot in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
