SYLVANIA, Ohio – Women's volleyball defeated Lourdes 3-1 to get back in the win column.
The first set started with back-and-forth action from the first serve with the set being tied two times and Lourdes eventually taking a 7-4 lead. The Warriors responded with a 4-0 run to take an 8-7 lead. The set was then tied three more times before Lourdes led 11-10. Tech had another 4-0 run to earn a 14-11 lead. The Warriors would not give up the lead again and ended the set with a 3-0 and 4-0 run to win the first set 25-18.
In the second set the Warriors led 4-1 and then 8-4 before the Grey Wolves scored two in a row to get within two of Tech (8-6). Tech then had a 3-0 run which the Grey Wolves responded two almost immediately with their own 3-0 run to put the score 11-9 in favor of Tech. Kills from
Olivia Niekamp and
Madelyn Omo gave the Warriors a 15-9 lead only for Lourdes to get back within three (15-12) with their next serve. With
Katrina Reynolds at the serve, the Warriors scored four-straight to lead 19-12. Later Tech led 20-13 before Lourdes gained control and scored five unanswered to get back within two (20-18). The set was then back-and-forth action, but the Warriors never gave up their lead and won the second set 25-23.
Lourdes led in the third set 5-2 and 7-5 before Tech tied the set at 7-7. The set was then tied 8-8 when Lourdes had a 4-0 run to take a 12-8 lead. The Warriors answered with three-straight points only for the Grey Wolves to score four more and take a 16-12 lead. Tech battled to stay within five and ultimately fell 25-20 in the third set.
After going down 2-0, the Warriors scored three consecutive points to lead 3-2 before the set was tied twice at 3-3 and 4-4. Tech then went on a 6-0 run to lead 10-4. Later the Warriors led 16-11 before Lourdes had a 4-0 run to get within on (16-15). The two teams began trading points before the Grey Wolves gained control and went on a 3-0 run to take a 22-21 lead. The Warriors took a timeout and then came out to score the next four points to win the fourth set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
Omo led Tech with 12 kills, two block solos and five block assists with a .632 hitting percentage.
Havilyn Cummings recorded 11 kills with one dig and on block solo with a .474 hitting percentage.
Andrea Schriver led with 20 assists and tabbed the double-double with 13 digs while
Genna Karbowski earned 19 assists and five digs.
Jacey Blust led Tech with 25 digs and added five assists and one kill.
The Warriors are back on the court this Saturday, March 27
th when they host Huntington for a non-conference match at 3 p.m. Â
