Warriors Struggle Against Grenadiers

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team returned to action this weekend against No. 22-ranked Indiana University Southeast and went 1-3 at the Koetter Sports Softball Complex. Tech split on Friday, falling 2-1 and winning 12-8, before dropping both games on Saturday, 9-1 and 10-2.

How It Happened
  • The Warriors struck first in game one with a solo home run from Payton Robinson, but IU Southeast pushed two runs across in the second and that was all the offense needed as both pitchers combined to surrender just 13 hits.
  • Tech scored in the first four innings of the second game Friday, cumulating with a six-spot in the fourth that was powered by a triple from Amanda Parker, a double from Payton Robinson and a base hit from Amanda Shonka. The Warriors held on to the win despite giving up runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
  • The two teams were all tied up at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Grenadiers put up an eight spot and ran into just one out to make it a 9-1 game.
  • The hosts wasted no time in the series finale to get the offense going as they scored six in the bottom of the first and tacked on a pair of runs in the second and fourth to take the weekend set.

Tech (8-8) returns to action on Friday, March 26 as they open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play against Cornerstone University. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. from the Cornerstone Softball Stadium.
