Tech Outlasts Saints in WHAC Thriller

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 in conference action Wednesday evening as they defeated Aquinas College 13-11 at the AQ Athletic Field.
 
How It Happened
  • The first 30 minutes of play was a back-and-forth contest with four lead changes four ties as the Warriors took a 5-4 lead into the locker room.
  • With the score knotted up at 7-7 with 6:43 left in the third quarter, Tech scored four times over the final 5:25 of the period, with Louis Czech scoring twice in 91 seconds, to hold an 11-7 advantage headed into the fourth quarter.
  • The Saints came roaring back with three straight goals to start the fourth and cut the deficit to 11-10, but goals from Nate Langille and Czech pushed the advantage up to 13-10.
  • The Warriors held off a late charge from the hosts that included a goal with 3:10 to play and being down a man with 1:38 to go in the game.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Czech finished the game with five goals and four ground balls while Andrew Ryan and Emmett Coleman had two scores each.
  • Andrew Neller went 20-27 in the face-off zone and nabbed 11 ground balls.
  • Jordan Reyes caused four turnovers, none bigger than his last one with under 90 seconds to play at the start of an Aquinas extra-man opportunity.
  • Joe Steigmeyer made seven saves in the win.
 
Tech (7-1, 2-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they host Lourdes University in a WHAC matchup. Opening face-off is set for 4 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
