Men's Ice Dominates Cleary 10-2

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Men's ice dominated Cleary in a 10-2 victory last night.

The Warriors opened the first period with a goal 17 minutes in from Matej Krasny off a pass by Cam Chabot. This put Tech up 1-0 after the first period. The Warriors then had two back-to-back shorthanded goals to open the second period. Krasny found the back of the net again from Bear Ross and Adam Vannelli while Joel Holmberg scored the second shorthanded goal from Alex Potter. With less then five minutes off the clock in the second period, the Warriors led 3-0.

Tech then took advantage of a powerplay when Cole Barney scored from Filip Schultz. Nick Papandrea found the back of the net under a minute later from Blake Cudmore and Vaughn Treppa to earn the Warriors a 5-0 lead with about half of the second period left to play. Cleary was able to get a shot into the net and get on the board at the 9:06 mark to make the score 5-1.

About 45 seconds later, Holmberg scored against from Barney and Potter to give Tech back their five-point lead. Cleary then earned a powerplay and took advantage of it when they slipped one into the net to get within four (6-2) once again. The Warriors held Cleary scoreless the rest of the game while they scored four more goals. Two of which game in the second period. Potter scored the seventh goal from Schultz and Holmberg on a powerplay while Treppa scored the eighth goal from Ross and Bobby Frieson to end the second period with an 8-2 lead.

The final two goals came in the third period with Holmberg scoring off a powerplay from Barney. Zach Bennett then scored the final goal from Krasny and Pete Cascagnette to earn the Warriors a 10-2 victory over Clearly.

Schultz went 14-for-22 in faceoffs with Ross going 14-for-19 and Chabot going 13-for-21. Ty Barnhill earned the win with 11 saves.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, March 6th when they travel to Cleary for a 6:30 p.m. puck drop.
