YANKTON, S.D. – Men's track and field claims their sixth Indoor National Championship in eight years with a thrilling win by the last event.
After Tech claimed the 4x400m relay title with a team of
Michael Warner, Miles Gray, Daunte O'Banion and
Jordan Highsmith, but the Warriors were trailing by 1.5 points to Dordt (Iowa) before the final event. Indiana Tech captured its second team title in three years after
Neville Smith's third place in the triple jump on the final event, scoring 51.5 points in the meet.
Smith set a new personal best with a jump of 14.67-meters.
The Warriors scored 16 points in the final two events to claim the team title. Head Coach
Doug Edgar was named the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Coach-of-the-Year after guiding his women's and men's squads to a sweep of the national titles.
Throughout the two-day event, the Warriors had great performances to help lead them to the title.
Zayquan Lincoln placed second in the 60-meters with a time of 6.79 seconds for a new personal best.
Lincoln then went on to take fourth in the 200-meters in 21.73 seconds, just shy of the personal best he set in the preliminaries (21.72).
Highsmith tied with
Lincoln for fourth in the 200 also finishing in 21.73 seconds.
Daunte O'Banion represented Tech in the 400-meter finals where he placed eighth in 50.28 seconds while
Alex Vandor ran in the 600-meters and claimed seventh in 1:22.17.
Coby Bailey finished in second of the 60-meter hurdles in 7.96 seconds, for a personal best and a school record, while
Zacharie Daniels claimed sixth in 8.06 seconds also for a personal best. Tech's 4x800 team of
Jamir Ferguson, Vandor, Phillip Selmer, and
Dylan Bikim finished in seventh with a time of 7:54.74.
Bikim also earned sixth in the high jump with a  height of 2.01-meters while
Daniel Buell placed 13
th in the weight throw with a distance of 16.96-meters.
