Warriors Notch Win Against Concordia

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 17-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team came away with the victory Saturday afternoon defeating Concordia 74-63. With this win, the Warriors improve to 18-2 on the year and 10-1 in the conference.

Emma Tuominen had a game high 22 points, going 10-16 from the floor to go along with five rebounds. Erika Foy was a menace on the floor as she poured in 20 points going 6-11 from the floor and 3-3 from beyond the arc, to go along with a game best 12 rebounds for her fifth double double on the season. Bethany Worm did a little bit of everything for the Warriors by posting 15 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Kyra Whitaker was another balanced attack, as she notched seven points, three rebounds, three assists, and four blocks.

Concordia started the game off with a triple to put the visitors up, but Worm got the Warriors on the board with a fastbreak layup, who would then go along to score the first four points for the home team. However, it did not take long for Tuominen to get in on the action as she finished the first quarter with eight points. It was pretty much the Warriors the rest of the period, as Concordia only scored two points in the final four minutes to end the quarter tied 15-15.

Foy got started by knocking down two triples to start the second period, with another triple coming from Whitaker to take the lead to 24-17. Concordia scored 14 points in the period, but it was not enough as the Warriors scored 21 points to make the lead 36-29 going into the break.

The Warriors continued their offensive force to start the second half. A good layup by Foy would give the Warriors their largest lead of the game of 14 points. However, Concordia would climb their way back with the help from Asaria Turman who had 11 points in the final period to go towards her team-high 19 points, which cut the lead down to eight points. Once again, Foy answered with two good free throws, following a layup by Tuominen. Concordia outscored Tech in final period, but it still was not enough as the Orange and Black would hold on for the win.

Tech (18-2, 10-1 WHAC) will be back in action Wednesday as they host Cornerstone (3-14, 1-8 WHAC) for a 6:00 PM start.
