Women's Hockey Clinches CCWHA West With Sweep of Dearborn

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech women's ice hockey team captured the CCWHA West Division Title with a convincing sweep of the No. 13-ranked UM-Dearborn Wolverines.

The first contest was held at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse on Friday night. It was the ACHA's leading goal-scorer, Megan Yakiwchuk, who struck first for the Orange in Black late in the first period, scoring on a rebound of a Brooklynn Moore shot attempt. The Warriors would carry a 1-0 lead into the second period, which saw two goals, one by Ashley Episcopo and one by Arika Trentor, helping the Warriors take a 3-0 lead into the final period. Dakota Bowler proved why she's one of the top goal scorers in the ACHA, connecting on her 18th and 19th goals in the third period as the Warriors would cruise past the Wolverines 5-0. Mackenzie Addley would make 18 saves in the shutout victory.

The second contest was held at the Dearborn Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon. Lauren Younker started things off for the Warriors, scoring two goals in less than 30 seconds in the first period, carrying the Warriors to a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Jaiden Rogers would score her third goal of the season early on in the second period before Ashley Episcopo would score her second goal of the series on the power-play shortly after. Izzy Pettem-Shand and Dakota Bowler would find the back of the net in the third period, with the former's being a short-handed goal. The Warriors would earn yet another impressive victory, by a final score of 6-2. Izzy Varner would make 24 saves in the win.

Indiana Tech (16-4-1, 14-0-0 CCWHA) will be back in action this weekend as they take on the undefeated, No. 1-ranked team in the country, the Liberty Flames (16-0, 4-0 away). Both games will be at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, with each contest starting at 8:30 PM.
