FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 24 ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team hosted the No. 15 ranked Georgetown College (Ky.) Saturday night in the Schaefer Center. After trailing at the end of the first quarter, Tech turned up the intensity taking the lead into half-time and not looking back, pulling away to win 66-53, helping the Warriors improve to 1-1 in the young season.
Erika Foy was the leading scorer for the Orange and Black with a game-high 19 points. She shot 8-12 from the floor and pulled down 8 rebounds in tonight's performance. The rookie Taylor Covington added 16 points for Tech tonight, going 7-12 from the field.
Kyra Whitaker put up 13 points earning 6 of those at the charity stripe. Bethany worm played a team-high 38 minutes, putting up 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
It was a tight first quarter in which Tech never saw the lead trailing at the break, 13-12. A pair of free throws from Juliana Burris gave the Warriors their first lead at the 9:52 minute mark in the second quarter. Tech shortly gave up their lead when Erin Toller hit a three for the Tigers to put them up 25-22, but the Warriors quickly pulled back in front and took a 30-27 lead into the locker rooms.
The Tigers scored 4 unanswered points out of half-time, giving them a 31-32 lead until a layup by
Kyra Whitaker put Tech back in front. From there, the Warriors never looked back, leading the remainder of the game and earning the victory over Georgetown.
Tech is back in action on November 1
st at 4:00 PM when they host Miami University (Hamilton) in the Schaefer Center. Tech is 2-0 against the Harriers, winning their November 2, 2021, matchup with a final score of 110-38.
