Warriors Push Their Winning Streak to 4 at Home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 21 ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team hosted the Saints of Aquinas College on Tuesday night in the Schaefer Center, where the Warriors defeated the Saints 49-46. The Warriors now improve their overall record to 8-2 and their conference record to 3-1.

The Warriors got on the board first with a Taylor Covington three-pointer to begin the scoring for the two sides. Covington went on to score five out of the eight points scored in the first quarter. A Kyra Whitaker three tied the game up with 10 seconds left in the first.

The Warriors stuck with their starting five of Juliana Burris, Taylor Covington, Erika Foy, Kyra Whitaker, and Bethany Worm leading into the second quarter. Aquinas sat in a three-two zone to force the Warriors to shoot deep for the entire half. The Warriors finished the second quarter with a steal and full-court lay-in from Covington, pushing the score line to 29-15.

Aquinas opened the scoring in the third quarter with an Isabel Reemsnyder three-pointer. Fortunately for the Warriors, the scoring was sporadic due to many defensive stops and steals. Tech led in the third with an eleven-point advantage of 42-31.

The Saints opened the scoring in the fourth and held the Warriors scoreless for more than three minutes, dominating the boards defensively. The Saints were able to cut the lead to four with 6:51 remaining in regulation. Korryn Smith, a sophomore center, laid the ball in at 6:18 for the Warrior's first score of the fourth on a Bethany Worm assist. Aquinas rallied with two minutes remaining in the game, cutting the Warrior lead to three.

Covington led the way for the Warriors in scoring with eighteen points (6 for 13 from the field) and finished the game with five rebounds, two assists, and five steals. Erika Foy led the Warriors with six rebounds, three offensively and three defensively, and finished with nine points. Bethany Worm (5pts) and Genevive Decker-Terres (6pts) also recorded six rebounds. Kyra Whitaker tallied eight points, four rebounds, and two assists. Covington also earned the Parkview Sports Medicine Player of the Game.

Tech retakes the court Wednesday, November 30, when they host the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles. Cornerstone enters the match-up undefeated in the WHAC with a four-game winning streak. Tip-off begins at 6 PM. The Warriors have won the last eight contests between the schools, winning the most recent with a 70-36 final score on January 19, 2022.
